a crafty port of call
I’ve got this thing lately for pillows. I just want to make them. I don’t know why, don’t ask me. I don’t typically use decorative pillows, but for some reason ~ I Gotta Make Em.
I made a knit pillow, which I just absolutely love – read about it here and I finished a crochet pillow with some more color work and RUFFLES!
The base is double crochet – and then I went in a zig-zag on the DC posts to add the ruffles or wiggle crochet. I don’t like the white yarn I used to SC the pillow pieces together. I was hoping to do an I-cord edging, that was a no go – I thought about a ruffled edge, but that would be to many ruffles – it’ll stay as is for now.
I’m kind ehh about it, and I think it needs a redo. It doesn’t help that the pillow cover grew larger than my pillow form! I wanted an envelope opening but it needs some shaping in the back, so….., it’s back to the drawing board. Practice, practice, practice.
Now, I’m working on a quilted pillow. I just completed the top, it’s a smaller version of The Scattered Squares pillow that Corey Yoder designed for Moda. The “recipe” will yield an 18″ x 18″ pillow. I wanted a little throw pillow and if this works out well, I may make a matching one from my mini charm pack.
I ordered some yummy color it in yourself fabric through an Etsy shoppe, Starlit Quilts – it’s the Color Me Princess Paisley by Hayley Crouse for Michael Miller. I have fabric markers and crayons and can’t wait to play with both and do some embroidery on this fabric. Anyways, the shop owner, Starlit Bear, sent along the mini charm pack – Aria by Kate Spain and I’m just thrilled to use them in my latest pillow project.
